“Because every student deserves an equally great education.” - The Rethinkers
Rethink’s Summer and After School Clubs
In June 2006, twenty middle school children entered Rethink’s six-week summer program. Students from different schools and backgrounds participated and began calling themselves “Rethinkers.” The students continued working together throughout the school year to make sure that student voices were at the forefront as New Orleans was making plans to rebuild its public school system.
ELF has supported Rethink’s programs by providing financial grants to help operate the clubs. The students meet and work with education experts, artists and architects to learn about each issue they’ve chosen. Their momentus recommendations for improving school food and cafeteria culture especially resonates with our foundation’s mission. School officials and the media pay close attention to the valuable work of these bright young people, and many of their recommendations have been implemented.
